1914: A Masked Ball @ Acharacle
"1914: A Masked Ball"
Shielbridge Hall, Acharacle
Friday 2nd May 2014
Concert 7 pm followed by Festival Meal 8.30 pm
All the music in this concert was written in the decade of the Great War: unashamed nostalgia from Elgar and Percy Grainger alongside two of Debussy’s last major works. Sadly that composer, seriously ill and devastated by the destruction around him, would not live to see the Armistice. The concert closes with Stravinsky looking forward to a “brave new world”: the exhilarating music from his Diaghilev ballet, Pulcinella!
The concert will be followed by a special Festival Supper provided by Jill Gosney of Ardsealach Lodge.
Charles Mutter (violin), Duncan Strachan (cello), Scott Dickinson (viola), Tom Blach (piano)
